Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse move into an apartment in a building with a bad reputation. They discover that their neighbours are a very friendly elderly couple named Roman and Minnie Castevet, and Guy begins to spend a lot of time with them. Strange things start to happen: a woman Rosemary meets in the laundry dies a mysterious death, Rosemary has strange dreams and hears strange noises and Guy becomes remote and distant. Then Rosemary falls pregnant and begins to suspect that her neighbours have special plans for her child.

I still might prefer Repulsion over Rosemary's Baby, but Rosemary's Baby is such a frightening tale. Especially for expectant mothers. Or any woman really. To be forced into something that you have no real power to get out of. Almost everyone is against you, and anyone who isn't is shut out of your life or gotten rid of completely. I mean, that's just fucked up. I wonder what Ira Levin's book is like in comparison to this movie.
Mia Farrow is so good in this, and so is the score and make-up. I love Ruth Gordon in this as well.
It's always fun catching William Castle's cameo in this too:
