Just a general discussion about jump scares in horror movies. Do you like them? Do hate seeing them pop up in movies? What are some examples of good ones and bad ones? Are jump scares just loud noises or more than that?

I mean, less is more, for anything in a horror movie, but especially jump scares; if you are going to include them. The classic examples are thunder booming at just the right time and a cat jumping into frame when all is tense. It's nice for an homage to those every once and a while, but draw horror from more than just jump scares. Don't become reliant on them, like the Conjuring Universe is. Those movies can still be entertaining, but not as well made. Jump scares aren't necessarily lazy. They can be expertly done. Like in The Exorcist III. Here's a great video on the subject:
