As far as modern westerns go, No Country for Old Men is the Coen Brothers best. As far as what makes for a quintessential western movie, like The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance or Shane, this is by far their best. Even better than their True Grit, if I may be so bold. Sure. The stories are mostly downers, but the cinematography, landscape, color scheme, and all around atmosphere is just wonderful to look at. Any Coen Brothers movie though is well worth looking at as well as rewatching. This one included.
