I love horror anthology films. I'm always on the lookout for more. This horror anthology film, however, did not meet my expectations.
"The Stockings Were Hung" had no real flair. The directing and acting were poor. Most of the acting. Jocelin Donahue was WAY underused. The concept was really stale.
"Dash Away All" was about the only one of the short stories I really liked. I hated how nothing was explained to the guy beforehand though. I understand the motives, but this needed a few more drafts to get right. It really did. With that said, the only story truly scary, in my opinion.
"All Through the House" is a very stupid rendition of A Christmas Carol. Very, very stupid.
"Arose Such a Clatter" is the worst story among these films, in my opinion. Just bullshit "horror comedy" without a solid punchline. Much less a solid set-up.
"In a Twinkling" is the weirdest story among these films. It makes the least sense, and somehow it's not the worst. It just needed a rewrite or two before being filmed.
The wraparound segment doesn't do the film any favors either. It's so cliche and dull I can't believe that that's the wraparound the filmmakers chose to run with.
Terrible effects throughout.
Overall, I would recommend avoiding this.
